"I am delighted that we can now put the video surveillance measure into operation on Friday. The rapid implementation underlines our determination in the fight against street crime!" With these words, Police President Gregor Lange welcomed the start of video surveillance at Dortmund Central Station.

Today, Thursday (20 March), Dortmund police technicians spent several hours setting up the video surveillance container on the station forecourt and installing the camera technology.

Video surveillance will therefore start on Friday.

During the course of the week, the police have already put up signs in the area of the main station. Königswall 15, Platz der Deutschen Einheit, Katharinentreppe/-straße (up to the junction with Schmiedingstraße) and Max-von-der-Grün-Platz are affected by the surveillance.

The surveillance is set for the area south of the main station during the week from Monday to Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at weekends from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Despite the relocation of the container from Dietrich-Keuning-Park to the central station, video surveillance in the park remains an important part of Dortmund's security strategy.

As the container has been set up here in addition to the installed cameras, large parts of the park can still be monitored.

However, Dortmund police are currently working on a technical replacement solution for the container.

The police measure of video surveillance in accordance with Section 15a PolG NRW is initially limited to one year. The proportionality of the measure will be legally reviewed at regular intervals.
