Bicycling continues to enjoy great popularity among the population. Unfortunately, this also means that the number of cycling accidents is continuously increasing or remains at a high level.
Accident records unfortunately show that too few cyclists still wear a helmet. However, cyclists should only ride with a helmet for their own safety.
There are frequent road accidents involving cyclists with serious or even life-threatening head injuries, often with serious and long-term consequences for health, work and leisure. Health and scientific experts are certain that many of these serious head injuries could presumably have been prevented by wearing a helmet. The personal decision to wear a helmet and thus take responsibility for yourself and your family should therefore be just as natural as protecting your cell phone with a cover or buckling up when driving a car.

But not every helmet is the right helmet. What you should look out for when buying and wearing a helmet to ensure you have the best possible protection:
Pay attention to the tested quality of your bike helmet
There is a recognized DIN standard EN 1078 (CE) for bicycle helmets in Europe. Helmets with this standard meet all basic safety requirements. You can usually tell whether a helmet meets this standard by a sticker on the inside, where you can also find the size, weight and production date.
Children should buy helmets suitable for their age group. These enclose the back of the head more than the helmet for adults.
Adjusting the helmet correctly
The head ring should be turned up and the helmet simply placed on the head. Turn the head ring slightly until the helmet sits firmly on the head - but not too tightly. The helmet should not slip off your head when you lean forward.
One tab of the chin strap should be in front of the ear and the other behind it.
Close the fastening clip under the chin and leave about a finger's length of space between the chin and the strap.

To ensure that your children wear the helmets, you should also buy them according to your visual preferences. Therefore, involve your children in the purchase of a new helmet.
Important - also use the helmet
Most of you have a helmet, but even the best helmet is useless if it is left lying around in the garage or cellar. It is quickly forgotten because it may not be comfortable, it may not look so nice or it may be too warm.
But remember, an accident or fall can never be planned.
Therefore - simply hang the helmet on the handlebars or put it in the bike basket so that it is ready to hand for the next tour.
